| -Event Review- Course on practical debating skills 28th, 29th Dec 2006 It is our pleasure to present to all our team members the first debating course of the academic year 2006-2007. With the aim to let our new junior team members have a better understanding on English Debating, we held the course with much emphasis on practical debating skills such as composing a speech, making rebuttals and more. The event was held by the ex-co members of the debating team, as we believe that the ex-co members of the team, most having been taking part in various competitions, can give the most accurate picture of what an actual debate is. The course was divided into two sessions: the lecture and the practice. On the first day, handouts and talks were given, which were followed by a detailed analysis of the team victory in the recent Sing Tao Inter-school debating competition. Right after the analysis was a demonstration of a formal debate, in which various participants were invited to be floor speakers. The day was ended by a comprehensive conclusion of the skills taught. The second day had a fully packed schedule of practices. Participants were given the opportunities to utilize and consolidate their skills through practices such as 1-on-1 debating, 3-minute public speaking, formal debating and more. We were especially happy to see that all participants responded enthusiastically towards the practices, and shown great motivation in learning to be outspoken. The day was ended by comments given by both the captain and the vice-captain to each participant. I would like to congratulate all the new junior team members who have attended the course, for you have started your first step towards your future success in communicating effectively. Special thanks to the PICs of the course, Leo and Kenneth, who have put much effort in making the course a successful one. Last but not least, thanks also be to the vice-captains, Vincent and Ronald, who have been sharing their valuable experience with the new members. I look forward to seeing the success of our next course, and I hope that all our team members can treasure the experience with us in English debating.
